About the role
The Head Custodian position at Miller School is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment within the school building. This includes daily care of all building areas, snow and ice removal, minor repairs, and adherence to safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Follow verbal, written, and demonstrated instructions
- Operate manual and automatic custodial equipment
- Perform upper and lower body movements as needed
- Work in a team environment
- Perform reaching, lifting, basic math, writing, eye-hand coordination, sitting, and stooping
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Work on your feet for a full eight-hour shift
- Maintain a clean and safe perimeter around the school building
- Plan, schedule, supervise, and evaluate the work of custodial workers
- Arrange and oversee building security
- Be aware of and attentive to building safety features, particularly fire control
- Follow health and safety procedures established by the district
- Arrive and depart punctually, notifying appropriate personnel about absences and coverage
- Represent RSU 40 with dependability, integrity, and loyalty
- Follow the chain of command for administrative procedures and student or program concerns
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)
- Similar work-related experience
- Strong characteristics of cooperation, flexibility, initiative, and industriousness
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
Qualifications
- Physical ability to perform all necessary job related upper and lower body movement
- Ability to relate sensitively to a wide variety of people
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in janitorial work

- Read, reason, and understand policies and procedures and related information
