Position Summary
The Head Coach, Sprints - Track & Field is responsible for leading all aspects of IMG Academy's Track & Field program, including athlete development, program operations, training implementation, recruiting, staff leadership, and overall program culture. This role creates and maintains a high-performance environment focused on athletic excellence, student-athlete development, competitive success, leadership development, and personal growth. The Head Coach is expected to establish and sustain a nationally recognized track & field program through innovative coaching, strategic leadership, relationship building, and operational excellence while ensuring alignment with IMG Academy's mission, values, and high-performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and lead high-quality track & field practices, training sessions, event group development plans, and competition preparation activities
- Lead the development of student-athletes' technical, tactical, physical, and mental performance across track & field disciplines, including sprints, hurdles, middle distance, distance, relays, jumps, throws, and combined events
- Design and oversee individualized athlete development plans, performance benchmarks, and long-term athlete development pathways for student-athletes
- Teach and implement event-specific technical instruction, race strategy, biomechanics, movement efficiency, competition tactics, and event execution utilizing modern coaching methodologies
- Utilize performance analytics, timing systems, video analysis, biomechanical assessment, and athlete monitoring technology to maximize athlete growth and competitive performance
- Prepare teams and student-athletes for practices, meets, championships, invitationals, camps, clinics, showcases, and recruiting events through structured planning, competition strategy, and performance evaluation
- Collaborate with Strength & Conditioning, Sports Medicine, Mental Performance, Nutrition, and Performance Science teams to support holistic athlete development, performance optimization, and injury prevention
- Continuously evaluate and enhance the track & field curriculum, training systems, athlete development models, and coaching methodologies to ensure best-in-class program delivery
- Maintain open, consistent, and professional communication with student-athletes and parents/guardians regarding athlete development, performance goals, academics, recruiting, and overall campus experience
- Serve as a mentor, educator, and role model by fostering discipline, accountability, leadership, teamwork, resilience, and life skills development
- Monitor the athletic, academic, and emotional well-being of student-athletes and collaborate with internal departments to ensure appropriate support resources are provided
- Aid student-athletes and families throughout the college recruiting and placement process while building and maintaining strong relationships with collegiate and professional programs
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture aligned with IMG Academy values and standards
- Collaborate with Track & Field leadership to review and enhance program structure, training content, operational delivery, staffing, objectives, and resource allocation
- Lead recruiting and retention initiatives for prospective and current student-athletes
- Recruit, develop, mentor, evaluate, and retain high-performing coaches and support staff
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with collegiate programs, professional organizations, governing bodies, meet directors, event organizers, scouts, and industry partners
- Support track & field camp programming, clinics, combines, community engagement initiatives, and special events
- Serve as a visible leader and ambassador for IMG Academy Track & Field both on campus and within the broader track & field community
- Partner with Admissions, Marketing, Communications, Outreach, and leadership teams to support recruiting, branding, visibility, and strategic growth initiatives
- Adhere to all IMG Academy policies, procedures, safety standards, and governing body regulations including FHSAA, NCAA, USATF, NFHS, and other applicable standards
Qualifications
- High level of expertise in track & field coaching, athlete development systems, and event-specific training methodologies
- Minimum of 5 years of experience coaching at the NCAA level, or managing track & field at the collegiate, professional, or national level
- Strong understanding of event-specific coaching methodologies, biomechanics, periodization, athlete evaluation, performance analytics, and long-term athlete development principles
- Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong commitment to student-athlete development, welfare, leadership, and overall experience
- Proven leadership ability with experience managing staff, building culture, and driving program success
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Strong understanding of recruiting, athlete evaluation, and college placement processes
- Experience utilizing performance analytics, timing systems, athlete monitoring platforms, biomechanical analysis, and video review technology preferred
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-performance environment
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and leadership teams
- Willingness and ability to travel as required
Preferred Skills
- Experience coaching at the NCAA level, elite or nationally ranked track & field programs
- Expertise in one or more event groups, including sprints, hurdles, middle distance, distance, jumps, throws, or combined events
- Bilingual preferred
- CPR Certification preferred
- Valid driver's license with ability to drive for competitions, recruiting events, and team travel
- Experience working track & field camps, clinics, showcases, and major competitions
- Experience utilizing performance analytics, biomechanical assessment tools, timing systems, and athlete development technology
- Established collegiate recruiting network and student-athlete placement experience
Physical Demands And Work Environment
- Ability to lift, move, push and pull equipment or boxes in excess of 40lbs
- Should be able to handle outdoor temperatures for a reasonable period of time
- Must be able to move around campus which includes gym, turf, fields, etc
- Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays is required
