About the role

The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is seeking a Head Baseball Coach to lead a high-performing baseball program. The ideal candidate must be passionate about working with student-athletes, possess a strong commitment to developing their character and skills, and be willing to collaborate with community youth programs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee training of student-athletes in all positions in conjunction with other coaches.
  • Develop training plans for student-athletes in conjunction with other coaches.
  • Assist in overseeing the running of specific events as needed at home games as directed by the Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director.
  • Direct game line-up planning for other coaches.
  • Attend and coach at all practices and games.
  • Maintain team members' school and practice attendance, monitor participation, and academic performance.
  • Create and enforce team expectations and policies.
  • Provide student-athletes with feedback about their performance related to their disposition, behavior, and team skills.
  • Manage program budget and organize fundraising efforts for the baseball program.
  • Cookordination competition and practice schedules with the Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director.
  • Cookordination off-season training and conditioning for the baseball program.
  • Successful completion of the required WIAA Rules Exam for baseball by the 2027 spring sports season.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of instructional techniques for competitive baseball.
  • Current certification or must obtain within one month of employment, and maintain CPR/AED certification from a national certifying organization.
  • If no teaching license, successful completion of an approved coach's education course (ASEP) or the ability to complete the course prior to the second season of coaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully coach in a diverse population.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain open communication with staff, student-athletes, and families.
  • Competitive baseball experience at the high school level.
  • Previous coaching experience with preference for those with prior baseball experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to design and implement, a developmentally appropriate program for students in baseball.
  • Evidence of knowledge of WIAA eligibility standards and willingness to reinforce good sportsmanship and compliance with athletic code from members of the East Baseball team.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and supervise athletic teams with respect to schedules, equipment, student eligibility, and safety.

Skills

  • Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses little to no risk of injury.
  • Manual dexterity is necessary for completing general tasks while operating office equipment.
  • Ability to perform work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year, including in inclement weather, spaces without air conditioning, and areas where temperatures may be uncomfortable or fluctuate rapidly.
