Head Coach - Bass Fishing

Part-time staff position within the Campus Life department.

About the role

The Head Coach of Bass Fishing is primarily responsible for the development and administration of the bass fishing team. This position recruits, selects, develops, and mentors students on the bass fishing team, focusing on their academic success, teaching the sport of bass fishing, and fostering their development as good citizens and representatives of the College. The role involves developing a preliminary budget, schedule, training, travel, and equipment needs, as well as establishing fundraising goals and promotional visibility for the College in collaboration with the Director of Campus Life.

Responsibilities

• Recruits and maintains a roster of eligible student anglers; coordinates with Admissions for prospective anglers.
• Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages participation; attends regional combines and recruiting events.
• Coaches and instructs anglers, individually or in groups, regarding rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques.
• Communicates and meets with the team or individual anglers.
• Builds and maintains relationships with high school fishing coaches and related programs.
• Develops competition schedule and coordinates team travel.
• Manages the team’s social media account, ensuring adherence to SMC brand identity and guidelines.
• Follows and maintains procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
• Ensures proper maintenance and care for College boat and equipment.
• Manages budget and submits accurate expense information and receipts promptly.
• Coordinates fundraising efforts, including volunteering, sponsorships, and events, in collaboration with the Interim Director of Campus Life.
• Adheres to Bassmaster, Major League Fishing, and ACA rules and regulations.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree.
• Competitive fishing experience at a collegiate level.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• CPR/AED Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Knowledge of competitive fishing regulations for Bassmaster, Major League Fishing, and ACA tournaments.
• Strong communication, motivational, and organization skills.
• Team-building abilities and experience working in a collaborative environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing.
• Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
• Visual acuity for determining accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work, including color, depth perception, and field vision.
• Subject to environmental conditions, including protection from weather but not temperature changes, and outside environmental conditions with no effective protection from weather.
• Exposure to noise levels requiring shouting to be heard above ambient noise, vibration, hazards (e.g., moving mechanical parts, vehicles, electrical current, high places, chemicals), and atmospheric conditions (e.g., fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation).
• Frequent work in close quarters, such as crawl spaces, shafts, small enclosed rooms, and other confined areas.

Pay

$12,600 paid in equal bi-weekly payments.
