Head Clerk

About the role

Woodlands Market, Marin and San Francisco's premier gourmet grocery store, seeks Head Cashiers / Customer Service Superstars. This position requires fast, friendly, accurate, and reliable individuals who can manage the front end of the store efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Direct traffic and assist in cashier, bagging, counting till duties as needed.
• Train, coach, and motivate employees within the customer service department.
• Resolve occasional conflicts and assist in store operations when the Store or Assistant Store Manager is not present.
• Avoidance of customer returns, exchanges, merchandise credits, check authorizations, charge sends, and discretion discounts.
• Avoidance of ensuring the completion of all POS transactions and proper control of all cash and media at the POS registers according to Company policies and procedures.
• Coordinate Front End service coverage for cashiers and baggers.
• Perform cashier and bagging duties as necessary.
• Assist in training of new cashiers and baggers.
• Assist in the preparation of daily deposits and change.
• Ensure compliance of Company policies, procedures, and practices and support loss prevention efforts.
• Manage store in absence of Store or Assistant Store Manager.
• Work with management to address personnel and performance issues.
• Provide orderly maintenance and ordering of front end supplies.
• Provide information to customers requesting special orders or out-of-stock items.
• Check front lot parking as needed.

Requirements

• Effective customer service (service orientation).
• In-depth knowledge of foods and store products.
• Able to prioritize work and handle multiple, concurrent tasks.
• Excellent verbal and customer service skills.
• Ability to process information/merchandise through computer system and POS register system.
• Ability to freely access all areas of the store including selling floor, stock area, and register area.
• Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates.
