About the Role
To maintain the safety, cleanliness, and upkeep of the physical school plan and grounds to provide an environment conducive to learning.
Responsibilities
- Helps in the selection, assignment, scheduling, and training of members of the custodial staff at the assigned school.
- Plans and oversees all maintenance and repair work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
- Monitors the time records and schedules of all custodial employees in the school and certifies them for salary payments.
- Maintains an inventory and recommends purchase of suitable supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Evaluates the performance of the custodial staff on a regular basis.
- Strives constantly to promote the safety, health, and comfort of the students and employees.
- Keeps all boiler rooms and electrical rooms clear of rubbish and stored materials.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Demonstrates all duties necessary as a custodian.
- Uses district checklist to maintain playground equipment in safe working condition.
- Works with others consistently in a cooperative and respectful manner.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities designated by the principal.
Requirements
- 3 years experience as a school custodian or the equivalent in custodial service in other institutions and firms.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Physical Requirements
- Requires medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, stretching or lifting all of the time.
- Involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis.
- Requires considerable skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of fingers, hands, or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
- Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
- Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using office and specialized equipment; to operate motor vehicles.
- Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, hand and power tools, measuring devices, etc.
- Must have significant levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
- Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
- Requires the ability to talk and hear (expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words and perceiving nature of sounds by ear).

- Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics of data, people, or things.
- Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including giving assignments and instructions to subordinates and receiving information from supervisors.
- Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of administrative, technical, and other documents and reports. Requires the ability to prepare various types of reports and documents with proper format. Must be able to speak before others with poise, voice control, and confidence.
- Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Requires the ability to apply influence systems in staff supervision, learn principles and techniques, make independent judgments, and acquire knowledge of topics related to facility management.
- Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, follow and give verbal and written instructions, counsel and teach employees. Must communicate effectively in facility management, building trades, and custodial care languages.
- Numeric Aptitude: Requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, determine percentages, decimals, and time. Must use practical applications of fractions, percentages, ratio, and proportion.
- Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must adapt to performing under stress during emergency situations or tight deadlines. May be subject to tension, danger, or risk as a regular part of the job.
