Head Athletic Trainer
Indian River State College is seeking a passionate and experienced Head Athletic Trainer to lead the athletic healthcare services for our collegiate student-athletes. This position oversees injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, medical clearances, and return-to-play protocols while collaborating with coaches, physicians, and athletic staff to support athlete health, safety, and performance. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement athletic training services within the Indian River State College athletic department.
- Represent the college at State, regional, and national meetings.
- Manage initial athletic clearance, including medical forms, insurance information, and pre-participation physicals prior to athlete participation.
- Educate student-athletes on injury and illness evaluation, rehabilitation, and appropriate physician referrals.
- Instruct student-athletes on injury prevention and rehabilitative methodologies.
- Provide treatment and apply therapeutic modalities, taping, bracing, and splinting/casting.
- Establish and maintain relationships with orthopedic and general practice physicians to enhance medical care for student-athletes.
- Work under the direction of the supervising physician.
- Schedule and accompany student-athletes to medical appointments as needed.
- Communicate with physicians and coaches regarding student-athlete injury and participation status.
- Maintain and inventory supplies biannually.
- Keep daily progress notes and additional records of communication with physicians, teachers, and parents.
- File insurance claims related to athletic injuries.
- Oversee and schedule the department's drug testing program with a third-party contractor.
- Cover all home athletic events and tournaments sponsored by the college.
- Travel to away athletic events as schedule permits.
- Supervise students interested in pursuing a degree in athletic training.
- Collaborate with the team to support student success, retention, and completion.
- Perform driving duties as assigned.
- Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in athletic training; Master’s degree in Athletic Training preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of proven athletic training experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer; preferably in a collegiate setting.
- Current certification by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Board of Certification (BOC).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Florida State Licensure or eligibility to receive licensing within 60 days of date of hire.
- Familiarity with NJCAA governing rules.
- Valid Florida driver’s license.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and efficiency skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, specifically related to athletic training policies and procedures.
- Ability to maintain strict accuracy and be detail-oriented.
- Technical skills and proven knowledge to work with elite collegiate athletes.
- Motivated self-starter with high character and integrity.
- Ability to work independently as well as with others.
- Proven experience with Microsoft Office and Windows-based applications.
Physical Demands
This position requires medium work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds, in addition to standing or sitting for extended periods. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines.

Pay
Pay range starts at $56,423.84. All salary calculations start at the minimum salary and will be based on the candidate's education and experience.
