Hazmat Technician
About the role
The Safety Hazmat Technician position at R+L Carriers requires a 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and involves tasks such as emergency response, hazardous and non-hazardous materials clean-up, site-remediation, equipment decontamination, handling of hazardous materials, and other duties as required. The role reports to the Director of Safety and is expected to work effectively and communicate with team members and other departments.
Responsibilities
- Wear proper personal protective equipment when required
- Work effectively and communicate with team members and other departments
- Inform the management team of issues that arise on jobs in a timely manner
- Update job notes daily
- Physically fit; able to lift 75 lbs.
- Able to thrive in a high-pressure and fast-paced team-supported environment
- Lead safety in all aspects of emergency response, including following R+L procedures, properly containerizing waste/re-use products, and completing safety documentation, and upholding R+L’s high level of safety
- Audit incoming/outgoing hazardous materials shipments for compliance
- Able to coach co-workers on unsafe behaviors observed
- Willing to participate in specialized scheduled projects as required
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications such as, but not limited to, Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, customer service, and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to work in a confidential capacity
- Able to handle multiple tasks, while being detail oriented
