Hazmat Technician

About the role

The Safety Hazmat Technician position at R+L Carriers' Elgin, IL service center office is responsible for performing tasks related to emergency response, hazardous and non-hazardous materials clean-up, site-remediation, equipment decontamination, handling of hazardous materials, and other duties as required. Reporting to the Director of Safety, this role adheres to OSHA and industry health standards, requiring proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and effective communication with team members and other departments.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks associated with emergency response, hazardous and non-hazardous materials clean-up, site-remediation, equipment decontamination, handling of hazardous materials, and other duties as required.
• Work effectively and communicate with team members and other departments.
• Inform the management team of issues that arise on jobs in a timely manner.
• Update job notes daily.
• Physically fit; able to lift 75 lbs.
• Able to thrive in a high-pressure and fast-paced team-supported environment.
• Lead safety in all aspects of emergency response, including following R+L procedures, properly containerizing waste/re-use products, and completing safety documentation, and upholding R+L’s high level of safety.
• Audit incoming/outgoing hazardous materials shipments for compliance.
• Ability and willingness to coach co-workers on unsafe behaviors observed.
• Willing to participate in specialized scheduled projects as required.
• Certified in Microsoft Office applications such as, but not limited to, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to work in a confidential capacity.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, while being detail oriented.

Requirements

• 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification required.
