About the role
The Safety Hazmat Technician position at R+L Carriers in Memphis, TN involves performing tasks related to emergency response, hazardous and non-hazardous materials clean-up, site-remediation, equipment decontamination, handling of hazardous materials, and other duties as required. Reporting to the Director of Safety, the role requires a 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and the ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform tasks associated with emergency response, hazardous and non-hazardous materials clean-up, site-remediation, equipment decontamination, handling of hazardous materials, and other duties as required.
- Work effectively and communicate with team members and other departments.
- Inform the management team of issues that arise on jobs in a timely manner.
- Update job notes daily.
- Physically fit; able to lift 75 lbs.
- Able to thrive in a high-pressure and fast-paced team-supported environment.
- Lead safety in all aspects of emergency response, including following R+L procedures, properly containerizing waste/re-use products, and completing safety documentation, and upholding R+L’s high level of safety.
- Audit incoming/outgoing hazardous materials shipments for compliance.
- Ability and willingness to coach co-workers on unsafe behaviors observed.
- Willing to participate in specialized scheduled projects as required.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications such as, but not limited to, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to work in a confidential capacity.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, while being detail oriented.
Requirements
- 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification required.
- Based on OSHA and industry health standards, wear proper personal protective equipment when required.
