About the role

The Safety Hazmat Technician position at R+L Carriers' Ypsilanti, MI service center office is responsible for performing tasks related to emergency response, hazardous and non-hazardous materials clean-up, site-remediation, equipment decontamination, handling of hazardous materials, and other duties as required. This role reports to the Director of Safety.

Responsibilities

  • Hold a 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification
  • Work effectively and communicate with team members and other departments
  • Inform the management team of issues that arise on jobs in a timely manner
  • Update job notes daily
  • Physically fit; able to lift 75 lbs
  • Able to thrive in a high-pressure and fast-paced team-supported environment
  • Lead safety in all aspects of emergency response, including following R+L procedures, properly containerizing waste/re-use products, and completing safety documentation, and upholding R+L’s high level of safety
  • Audit incoming/outgoing hazardous materials shipments for compliance
  • Ability and willingness to coach co-workers on unsafe behaviors observed
  • Willing to participate in specialized scheduled projects as required
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications such as, but not limited to, Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, customer service, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to work in a confidential capacity
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, while being detail oriented

Requirements

  • 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification required
  • Based on OSHA and industry health standards, wear proper personal protective equipment when required
  • Work effectively and communicate with team members and other departments
