About the role

This position involves working in a hatchery environment performing various tasks related to chick processing, equipment operation, and facility maintenance. The role requires physical stamina, attention to safety, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Pull chicks, grade chicks, perform breakouts, wash trays and machines, move buggies, clean, and place chickens in houses
  • Mix vaccine, dispense formaldehyde, and run Embrex machines (which work various hours and days)
  • Assist with tray and set eggs
  • Perform machine checks, follow instructions, and document findings
  • Start generators and complete some maintenance on machines when issues arise
  • Communicate with management and maintenance when issues arise
  • Complete tasks independently; some shifts may require working alone
  • Perform other duties as tasked by administration and as requested by management at both hatcheries
  • Ensure safety and maintain work area free of clutter and tripping hazards, keep organized at all times

Requirements

  • Must have 6 months of work history within the last 12 months documented in application's work history and/or resume (can be combination of employers)
  • Must be able to understand labels, read recipes, follow instructions, and communicate effectively
  • Must be able to stand for the duration of shift (usually 10 hours with two unpaid 30-minute breaks)
  • Bending, twisting, and turning body from side to side to see and keep up product in work area
  • Good hand/eye coordination
  • Includes lifting, pulling, pushing, squatting, climbing, bending, reaching, rolling buggies
  • Must be able to lift/push 40+ pounds
  • Must be able to work in damp/warm conditions
  • Must be safe and observe all of Tyson's policies and procedures
  • Must be able to obtain lockout/tagout certification, pallet jack and moffett license
  • Must be willing to help with different days and hours as needed
  • Must be willing to perform other jobs as requested by management at both hatcheries

Equipment and PPE required

  • Gloves provided (if desired)
  • Water/skid-proof footwear
  • Electric hand jack
  • Ear protection (plugs or muffs)
  • Hair bonnet and beard guard (if desired)
  • Must wear respirator when dispensing formaldehyde (no beard older than 24 hours; mustache must be cropped at corners of mouth)

Pay

$17.20 per hour

Schedule

4:45 AM - 3:45 PM Monday, Tuesday, Friday, with alternating Thursdays and Saturdays. Holiday work required sometimes.
