About the role

The Harm Reduction Specialist provides harm reduction education and outreach, including naloxone distribution, HIV and Hepatitis C prevention, and safer sex practices, to consumers in the Syringe Exchange Program.

Responsibilities

  • Processes incoming referrals and schedules intake visits.
  • Completes intake assessments for CRSEP program, including basic demographic information.
  • Maintains and orders supplies as needed and disposes of biohazard waste according to established procedures.
  • Collaborates with Program Clinical Supervisor or Manager to provide outreach and education regarding naloxone distribution, HIV and Hepatitis C prevention and safer sex practices to consumers.
  • Provides HIV and Hepatitis C screenings as appropriate, makes referrals for follow-up as needed, and maintains records of results.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing, establishes positive public relations, and interacts effectively with a diverse array of professionals and consumers.
  • Coordinates syringe exchanges, including updating drop-box codes as needed.
  • Required to travel in own vehicle throughout the state for agency-related business.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus at least 1 year of related knowledge and experience in working with individuals presenting with substance use, harm reduction, and/or behavioral health disorders is required.
  • Maintain a current driver's license and have a clean driving record.
