Hardware Test Engineer
About the role
This role is onsite based in Palo Alto, CA. As a member of the Wing Lab team, you will provide support to Wing Engineering teams, assisting new prototype build/bring-up and development testing which includes test set-up, troubleshooting prototypes boards down to component level. You will execute test plans such as signal measurements, power measurements, updating devices/boards with latest Firmware/software. You will help assemble and disassemble Wing aircraft devices, maintain a well documented SOP and work across Wing Engineering teams to provide lab support, testing and data collection. Manage and maintain lab stock supplies and equipment.
What You’ll Do
- Actively engage in cross-functional execution of validation plans, troubleshooting, and documentation to maintain design quality and ecosystem performance.
- Execute verification test plans, signal characterization, power measurements and interoperability testing and data collection.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues in Hardware/SW/Ops failure analysis and test.
- Maintain records of calibration dates, results, and any adjustments made, and establish a clear schedule for calibrating all instruments (pressure sensors, flow meters, temperature probes, etc.).
- Work with engineers to set up tests, including building and installing test articles and fixtures, setting up instrumentation, and configuring data acquisition systems.
- Run tests according to the defined procedures. Monitor the test closely, watching for any anomalies or unexpected behavior, and taking notes on test conditions, progression, and observations in a test card.
- Ensure that data is accurately collected, labeled, annotated, and stored.
- Work closely with engineers during the planning and design phases of new tests. Provide input on practical considerations, such as space requirements, available equipment, and potential safety concerns.
- Lab maintenance, keep the lab organized and work areas clean. May include lab setup optimization.
- Making sure lab equipment is stocked.
What You’ll Need
- 2+ years of experience working with electronics with strong EE fundamentals, including ability to modify/design test fixture boards; digital and/or analog systems.
- Hands-on experience in prototype bring-up and debugging, functional verification, and python scripting.
- Must enjoy being hands-on in the lab and want to be in the details (soldering, oscilloscopes, data acquisition) and contagious enthusiasm and passion for engineering.
- Able to understand schematics and manage sourcing of quick turn proto boards.
- Understanding of hardware evaluation methodologies, including development of test cases/suites, performance monitoring, test automation, and data analysis.
- Comfortable working with hand tools, digital multimeter, and basic power tools (e.g. hand drill).
- Wire/cable soldering experience.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and identify solutions.
- Effective communication with engineers and other team members.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Experience with testing in a lab environment.
Pay
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $133,000 USD - $141,000 USD. Wing’s salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.
