We are an in-office company, expecting full-time employees to primarily work from their Applied Intuition office 5 days a week. Flexibility is recognized, allowing occasional remote work or adjusted schedules to accommodate personal commitments. This expectation does not apply to contractor positions.
About the Role
We are seeking a Hardware Integration Engineer to collaborate directly with our hardware team on the build-out, testing, maintenance, and utilization improvement of our fleet. As the lead technical reference for the system, you will engage daily with all aspects of the self-driving system, working closely with hardware engineers, engineering technicians, operators, and safety drivers. This role focuses on deploying our autonomy technology to mining customers, involving close collaboration with the Sunnyvale engineering team and on-site work with customers.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert for Applied’s autonomous mining system by building deep familiarity with all aspects of the system.
- Work directly at customer sites to own the deployment of integrated autonomous systems onto mining and construction vehicles.
- Own fleet reliability and act as the first line of triage and issue resolution for problems found at customer sites.
- Provide vehicle integration support across the organization by designing, prototyping, and installing proof-of-concept systems and sensors under evaluation.
- Lead and support the vehicle from build-out through delivery to our operations team, including final bring-up and shakedown testing.
- Design and build test benches to validate mechanical, electrical, embedded, and software systems.
- Develop and own documentation related to vehicle integration.
- Troubleshoot vehicle systems, computer components, and sensors, performing root cause analysis.
- Minimize vehicle downtime while prioritizing safety.
- Work independently on high-level, dynamically evolving challenges.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in mechanical, electrical, or a related field.
- 5+ years of technical experience in mechanical, electrical, computer, mining, or the construction industry.
- Experience working with AV components such as LiDARs, radars, and cameras.
- Previous experience with low-volume manufacturing in the off-road industry.
- Proven ability to read and understand electrical schematics and datasheets.
- Experience documenting and maintaining detailed assembly procedures.
- Proficiency with shop equipment, 3D printers, and automotive diagnostic tools.
- Familiarity with CAD (or SolidWorks) design processes (a plus).
- Experience with CNC, machining, metalworking, and welding.
- Experience with automotive repair and maintenance.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Python or other programming languages.
- Familiarity with ROS and Linux OS.
- Familiarity with programming microcontrollers/microprocessors.

Pay
Compensation includes base salary, equity, and benefits. Base salary range for this role is $90K - $140K. The actual base salary offered will be influenced by factors such as experience, credentials, educational attainment, skill level requirements, and interview performance.
