Job Summary
Lays out, fits, and welds various components to assemble mufflers, pipes and catalytic converters to meet production schedules efficiently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding according to blueprint and route card specifications.
- Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together according to blueprint and route card specifications.
- Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding.
- Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, mig, tig, or gas welding equipment.
- Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts.
- Inspects parts, measuring as needed, to ensure that all products meet or exceed quality standards. Follows quality procedures to meet QS/TS guidelines including those listed in Station Control Plan.
- Completes annual reviews of OSHA required training classes as assigned by supervisor.
- Reports all safety malfunctions as well as any near hits or injuries immediately to supervisor.
- Maintains a high standard of housekeeping in the department. Performs clean up duties in work area as assigned.
- Completes all necessary paperwork such as job cards, production and inventory tickets, and other data as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a mig welder preferred.
- Must complete Walker in-house certification process.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Often required to sit and use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
