Hair Stylist Apprentice / Assistant

About the Role

Soon Beauty Lab is a full-service hair salon with two Brooklyn locations (Fort Greene and Carroll Gardens) seeking a friendly, creative Apprentice with a passion for hair and beauty. Apprentices participate in our Education Program, working hands-on with Master stylists and Educators to receive training in cutting, hair color, and hair styling. They also assist stylists, tend to clients, and help ensure the salon operates smoothly.

Completion of the apprentice program can lead to a stylist position on our salon floor.

Responsibilities

• Opening/closing the salon with the receptionists
• Cleaning and sanitizing color bowls, styling tools, chairs, and products
• Setting up stylists' stations and preparing clients for services
• Assisting stylists in shampooing clients, mixing and applying toners/treatments, blowdrying, etc.
• Laundering and folding capes, towels, and robes
• Helping to clean, sweep, and tidy the salon throughout the day
• Participating in our weekly education program (must have cosmetology license to start classes)
• Training with receptionists to become proficient in our booking software (Phorest)

Requirements

• NY cosmetology license (or graduating from cosmetology school soon)
• Full-time availability
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Willingness and initiative to assist other salon team members
• Ability to learn and adapt to our booking software (Phorest)
