Gym and Field Monitor - Aiken

About the role

Are you passionate about sports, youth development, and keeping the vibe positive and safe? The YMCA is looking for a Gym & Field Monitor to keep our programs running smoothly and our courts and fields full of smiles, teamwork, and respect.

Responsibilities

• Supervise gyms, fields, and outdoor courts during games, practices, and open play.
• Ensure everyone—from youth participants to adult volunteers—stays safe, seen, and supported.
• Address safety concerns proactively, acting as a referee, coach, and teammate.
• Lead with the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
• Promote good sportsmanship, positive vibes, and inclusive play.
• Support participants and staff with empathy, fairness, and encouragement.
• Assist with equipment set-up and tear-down, maintain schedules, and facilitate communication between coaches, referees, and staff.
• Keep gym and field spaces clean, organized, and ready for use.
• Lock and unlock facilities, assist with lighting, and make minor equipment adjustments.
• Report maintenance needs promptly.

Requirements

• A heart for youth and a head for safety.
• Willingness to be active—walking, standing, lifting up to 50 lbs, and leading.
• Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving ability, and a calm presence in energetic environments.
• Weekend and evening availability.
