About the role
Apart from helping monitor the gym during weekday afternoon hours, this part-time position involves assisting with class setup, enforcing safety protocols, and delivering exceptional member service.
Responsibilities
- Monitor all gym areas during open sessions and scheduled classes
- Patrol the floor, observe activity flow, and step in to assist instructors or members as needed
- Arrange equipment and space for group fitness classes or open-gym sessions; return the gym to standard layout when programs conclude
- Enforce YMCA’s code of conduct and equipment-use policies; intervene in unsafe or non-compliant behaviors and escalate serious or unresolved incidents
- Deliver exceptional member service by welcoming members, guests, and program participants, conducting personalized tours as needed, addressing inquiries, and fostering positive relationships
- Relay daily observations, member feedback, and any unusual or persistent issues to the Building Supervisor or Associate Executive Director; participate in briefings or debriefs as required
- Maintain emergency preparedness by mastering YMCA emergency procedures, responding to incidents, and notifying appropriate personnel
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in a fitness center, recreational facility, or similar customer-service environment
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Dependable, observant, and capable of working independently on the gym floor
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
