Hourly Rate: $32.38 (contingent upon contract award)

About the role

The Gunsmith II designs, fabricates, modifies, repairs, and services foreign and domestic firearms, weapons, and accessories. This position works on external/internal and terminal ballistics, builds custom pistols and rifles, and performs major repairs on standard and non-standard small arms with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Build custom pistols, rifles, and other weapons systems with minimal supervision
  • Perform major repairs on foreign and domestic small arms weapons
  • Fabricate special jigs, fixtures, and tooling with some supervision
  • Read and interpret blueprint drawings
  • Disassemble, repair, replace parts, clean, service, and reassemble automatic and manual weapons (e.g., machine guns, rifles, pistols, revolvers, grenade launchers, shotguns)
  • Repair weapon components such as firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, ejectors, sights, bolts, stocks, hammers, barrels, and solenoids
  • Straighten bent parts, file burrs, perform timing alignment and adjustments
  • Perform bore scoping and pullover gauging of cannon tubes
  • Clean and refinish weapons; apply phosphate and bluing solutions
  • Conduct operational checks and test fires to ensure accuracy, safety, and ease of operation
  • Assist military personnel, inspection teams, and equipment specialists with small arms repair and maintenance
  • Repair and adjust weapons to national match standards
  • Perform support functions for the shop and other position-related duties as assigned
  • Serve as primary instructor on standard and non-standard small arms weapon systems

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completed 92Y Unit Armorer Certification Course: 551-F29 (MTT-A/G) or equivalent civilian training
  • Formal one- to two-year accredited in-house gunsmithing course or 2–3 years of equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of U.S. Army procedures and logistics information systems
  • Familiarity with U.S. Military Technical Manuals (TMs)
  • Experience with military logistics and security requirements for small arms management
  • Strong customer service, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform production control activities (e.g., record-keeping, material reporting, monitoring customer requests)
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods on level or inclined surfaces
  • Ability to type using a standard keyboard for email and software applications
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 30 pounds
  • Ability to work in a drafty, noisy, and dirty shop environment; exposure to extreme noise from operating equipment
  • Must have or be able to obtain a forklift license
  • Must obtain a NACI/CAC and Common Access Card (CAC)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Armor or gunsmith certification(s)
  • Experience working with U.S. Army combat and tactical equipment
  • Valid U.S. Army MOS 45 Bravo, 93 Juliet, or USMC MOS 2111 certificate and/or GSA/OEM Factory Armorer certifications for required weapons

Pay

Hourly Rate: $32.38 (contingent upon contract award)
