Guide Technician
About the role
The Saw Guide Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and preparation of saw guides and saw blades used in lumber production. This includes precision work such as preparing and milling babbitt guides for round saws, conducting quality control checks, and ensuring all components meet strict tolerance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, repair, replace, and maintain babbitted guides, wear plates, and related machine components
- Perform babbitt pouring, fitting, scraping, machining, and finishing activities as required
- Monitor guide wear and equipment performance to identify maintenance needs before failures occur
- Adjust machine guides and wear components to maintain product quality and equipment efficiency
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of saw shops and work areas
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous experience with babbitt, guides, or saws
- Working knowledge of alignment, measurements, and machine tolerances
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring devices
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to equipment reliability and product quality
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Qualifications
- Preferred qualifications: High school diploma or GED
- Required qualifications: Previous experience with babbitt, guides, or saws
