Qualifications
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in School Counseling
- Michigan School Counselor License; satisfied all requirements to be employed as a School Counselor
- Experience as a high school counselor (preferred)
- Knowledge and experience assisting students with post-secondary planning
- Effectively uses data to provide informed and individualized counseling
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience working with both special education and general education students
- Strong attention to detail
- Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement, including department and building goals
- Experience with PowerSchool Student Information System (preferred)
- The ability to support the Catholic identity of Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School
- Completes the Protecting God’s Children workshop and state requirements for fingerprinting
Responsibilities
- Provide academic guidance to maximize student development and preparation for future goals
- Certifies students' progression towards graduation; e.g., calculates accumulated credits, grade point averages, and class standings; records test information and determines promotion and retention decisions
- Coordinates and interprets testing programs in the school (PSAT, SAT and AP)
- Provides recommendations to colleges and scholarship sources and provides scholarship and financial aid information to students
- Collects, monitors, assesses and reports relevant student data that assists in attainment of school goals while developing appropriate student programming and interventions
- Affords assistance and consultation with teachers and administrators on a variety of related matters
- Assists with the scheduling process
- Consults with and assists parents in their efforts to support their child’s education and well-being
- Collaborates with staff to support students’ medical, academic, and social/emotional needs
- Conducts work in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to professional practice and procedures
- Participates in the Nonpublic Service Plan process to evaluate student’s learning needs, as needed
- Maintains accuracy and appropriateness of records and documentation
- Affords assistance in coordination of student services within and outside of the school
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal
