About the role
Guard/Welcome Agent is responsible for providing assistance to the Shipping/Receiving Clerks. Accurately reporting on trailers at the site and assisting carriers on getting on and off the site. Must exhibit attention to detail and ensure complete and accurate work. Possess a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.
Responsibilities
- Check in and out all professional drivers
- Direct visitors and professional drivers to various parts of grounds or buildings
- Professionally and courteously communicate with drivers and team members
- Ensure all paperwork is accurate and completed in full
- Place driver’s license information and/or seal numbers in the system
- Report the condition of the trailers at the time of arrival and departure
- Accurately report the temperature of all trailers
- Verify seal numbers on trailers entering and leaving facility
- Assist Shipping/Receiving Clerks in their daily duties and responsibilities
- Follow company policies, guidelines and work instructions
- Ensure the yard management program is accurately updated
- Work with other USCS staff to get drivers to and from doors
Requirements
- Education: High School Degree preferred
- Experience: 1 to 3 years preferred
- Excellent communication skills, written and oral
- PC, leadership and planning skills helpful
- Must have computer experience
- Experience with warehouse paperwork preferred
- Experience with customer service preferred
- Ability to perform, but not limited to the following tasks, ability to de-escalate situations, enter into the computer the correct information to confirm
- Must be able to fill out bill of lading and be familiar with various forms that are used and required by the major freight carriers

- Bend and lift as much as 50 lbs. on a regular basis
- Lift up to 70 lbs with assistance on an occasional basis
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls
- Be able to speak and hear for safety and productivity
- Use scanners, tablets, radio, phones, and other warehouse machinery
- Ability to lift overhead
- Ability to work overtime is an essential part of this position due to demand
- Have acceptable and/or correctable vision
- Work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather
- Personal interaction and communication required to and from other people is extremely high
- Good arithmetic and reading skills
- Understand and follow verbal instruction, written instruction and company policies
- A self-starter that can work independently and coordinate with others
- Work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to manage stress and productivity guidelines
- Ability to de-escalate abrasive situations
