GTM Legal Engineer

About the role

The role exists to be a guide for in-house legal teams navigating the shift towards AI-driven operations. You will bring in-house credibility and knowledge to support engagements with legal leadership and team members.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Account Executives across the full sales cycle, bringing in-house credibility and knowledge to discovery, demos, and commercial conversations with legal leadership and team members.
• Lead tailored product demonstrations for in-house legal teams, grounding every demo in the operational realities of in-house legal work.
• Conduct in-depth discovery to understand how each legal department is structured, how work flows, where the inefficiencies live, and where Wordsmith can deliver the most meaningful impact.
• Hands-on support during pilots or evaluation periods, helping to connect specific business needs with the developing technology.
• Translate the value of AI into language that resonates with in-house stakeholders, reducing cycle times, cost efficiency, risk reduction, and freeing lawyers to focus on business priorities.
• Map how AI will impact specific functions and workflows.
• Confidently engage on ROI, helping legal and finance stakeholders evaluate and articulate the business case for AI adoption internally.
• Map out how AI will impact specific functions and workflows.
• Act as the voice of the in-house customer within the GTM team, feeding commercial and product teams with insight on how corporate legal departments think, prioritize, and buy.
• Be a leading voice for in-house users inside the company, sharing insights from legal ops teams, commercial lawyers, and compliance functions that directly inform product development and roadmap priorities.
• Work closely with product and engineering teams as well as embedded legal engineers to translate real-world in-house legal needs into clear, actionable product requirements.
• Help develop commercial messaging, content, and collateral that speaks directly to the priorities of GCs, Legal Ops leaders, and in-house teams.
• Contribute to the development of the legal engineering function as it scales, helping to define how the company engages with and serves in-house customers globally.

Qualifications

• Qualified attorney with experience in an in-house legal team — whether at a corporation, financial institution, or high-growth company.
• Direct experience of the operational pressures, budget constraints, and strategic priorities facing corporate legal is central to this role.
• A strong understanding of how in-house legal departments are structured and how decisions get made — from the GC down to legal ops as well as interacting with other members of a company.
• Executive presence and communication skills — comfortable presenting to a GC, facilitating a workshop with a legal ops team, or running a business case discussion with a CFO.
• A genuine ability to translate across disciplines: bridging legal, commercial, technical, and operational conversations without losing the thread.
• A genuine curiosity about AI and a conviction that it will reshape the in-house legal function.
• Experience in legal operations, legal tech procurement, or technology implementation within a legal department.
• Familiarity with the tools and systems common in in-house environments (contract lifecycle management, matter management, e-billing, compliance platforms).
• Experience in change management or large-scale technology rollout programmes.
• Prior experience in a client-facing or commercial role, including secondment or business development.
• Comfort operating in fast-moving, high-ambiguity environments with a founder and builder mentality.
