Grove - Deburr Technician

Our Deburr Technicians remove small imperfections (burrs) from machined metal parts to meet customer and industry specifications. The Deburr Lead performs the same duties and additionally monitors and motivates a team to achieve department objectives.

Responsibilities

• Select the type of finish specified per work instruction to determine the amount of metal to be removed and examine the part for acceptability of the finish
• Operate grinders and similar powered hand tools to remove burrs and blend or polish surfaces to correct minor machining errors; use carbide burr tools to remove excess material without causing damage
• Blend metals, including steel, aluminum, magnesium, and titanium; create radius on areas of parts by hand
• Perform work in compliance with prints and written specifications; select appropriate methods and tools to comply with specs
• Inspect equipment daily for damage; report issues to supervision and may enter work orders or communicate with maintenance personnel; inspect and replace worn belts and grinding wheels; may perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on tools & equipment
• Operate tumblers; load & unload tumbler hopper as needed
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and ensure others do the same
• Follow directions consistently and accept responsibility for actions and work product
• Comply with applicable manufacturing processes, work procedures, and supervisor instructions
• Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures; proactively identify job hazards and collaborate with leadership to minimize hazards and ensure employee safety
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned
• Regular attendance on-site at the workplace is required

This role requires ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance. Qualified candidates must be a U.S. Person as defined by EAR Part 772 and ITAR 120.15: a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident ("Green Card" holder), or a "protected person."

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a production/manufacturing role requiring the use of hand tools and material-handling equipment is preferred; recent vocational training in a metal-working or other technical role may substitute for work experience
• Experience reading and accurately interpreting shop blueprints, technical drawings, and customer specifications
• Experience using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers and calipers, is preferred
• Experience using powered electric and/or pneumatic hand tools, including grinders or sanders, is preferred
• Aerospace manufacturing experience is advantageous

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, including standing for long periods to perform job duties
• Regularly lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 50 pounds using peer assistance and/or other lifting & material-handling equipment
• Occasionally reach overhead and reach out or down to perform duties
• Occasionally bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel
• Frequently use hands or fingers to manually inspect parts and operate tools and/or material handling controls
• Visual acuity to interpret readings on gauges and other measuring devices

Work is performed in a manufacturing shop environment with exposure to:

• Excessive noise (hearing protection required)
• Dust, smoke, mist, fumes/vapors (regularly)
• Extreme temperatures (occasionally)
• Hazardous equipment, including forklifts, hand tools, cranes or other lifting devices, and other machine shop equipment (regularly)

The use of PPE, including hearing protection, eye and hand protection, and safety footwear, is required.
