About the role
New York Road Runners (NYRR) is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1958. NYRR aims to build healthier lives and stronger communities through running. It organizes races, community events, programs, and training resources for runners. NYRR's flagship event is the TCS New York City Marathon, which raises funds for charity and boosts the economy. NYRR also offers youth fitness programs in underserved communities.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Training Team Lead and/or Park Lead to execute engaging workouts that build aerobic capacity and motivate participants.
- Communicate frequently with the Training Team and/or Park Lead via phone, text, and email to ensure workouts are science-based and aligned with NYRR training principles.
- Ensure a safe and positive training environment for participants.
- Commit to a total workout time of 90 minutes per session, with workouts averaging 60 minutes in length.
- Arrive 15 minutes early and stay for up to 15 minutes post-workout to answer questions.
Requirements
- Prior coaching and training/running experience strongly preferred.
- Experience coaching and working with runners of varying levels.
- Preferred: Experience in community building and runner engagement.
- Ability to implement workouts for runners of varying ability levels and adapt workouts as needed to ensure safety.
- Strong interpersonal skills with clear communication.
- Punctual and dependable.
- Ability to encourage and motivate runners.
- Ability to implement effective conflict resolution.
- Comfort speaking with authority in a group setting.
- Preferred: Willingness and flexibility to travel to various parks.
- Must be able to run 4 miles at an assigned pace without stopping and carry a 10-pound AED backpack during emergencies.

- Must be able to simultaneously coach and run 4 miles at an assigned pace without stopping.

Education & Certifications
- First Aid and CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain certification through NYRR sponsored training).
- Preferred: RRCA, USATF, or comparable coaching or training certification (or willingness to obtain certification through NYRR-sponsored training).
Pay
$30.00 hourly
