Group Manager- Site/Civil

About the role

This is a genuine leadership opportunity for someone who wants to combine technical responsibility, project leadership, and team development. You will take ownership of complex site/civil projects, guide engineers through NYC permitting and approvals, and help shape the continued growth of the department.

The Group Leader will provide technical leadership across the Site/Civil team while managing and mentoring engineers at different levels. You will remain hands-on with project delivery while taking responsibility for technical standards, project execution, and the development of the team. There are no business development expectations.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex site/civil projects for NYC clients, overseeing design, coordination, and delivery from concept through completion.
• Provide technical direction across site development, grading, drainage, stormwater management, and utility design.
• Manage and mentor the civil team, providing day-to-day guidance and helping junior and mid-level engineers develop technically and professionally.
• Oversee NYC permitting and approvals, guiding projects through SCA, DEP, DOB, and other relevant requirements.
• Coordinate with project teams, clients, and public agencies to resolve technical issues and keep projects moving.
• Maintain high technical standards across the department while helping build the team's capabilities as the company grows.

Requirements

• PE preferred or actively progressing toward licensure, with the technical background to take increasing ownership of projects and sign off on work as your responsibilities grow.
• Strong site/civil design background - Significant hands-on experience designing site development projects, including grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and related civil infrastructure.
• Proven leadership experience - Strong project and people management skills, with the ability to provide technical direction, mentor engineers, and take ownership of project delivery.
• NYC site/civil experience - Experience delivering site/civil projects in the New York market, ideally including work with SCA, DEP, DOB, or similar public agencies.
• Ability to work full-time on-site and remain actively involved in both technical design and team leadership.

Pay

Salary range for an independent Senior PM/Group Leader is between $125K–$165K, with additional earning potential as you take on greater responsibility.
