Group Lead - Quality

About the role

As the Group Lead for the Quality Department, you will provide technical leadership, training, and guidance to department team members. This role involves overseeing daily operations, troubleshooting issues, coordinating with maintenance, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Responsibilities

• Successfully complete Level 1 – 4 assessments and recertify knowledge annually.
• Tour the work area to ensure department operations are running on schedule; determine causes of machine downtime and coordinate follow-up.
• Advise and assist team members during machine troubleshooting and prioritize repairs with the maintenance team.
• Perform department audits and encourage teamwork and employee engagement.
• Troubleshoot equipment, material, and process issues; analyze equipment for wear and assist in determining replacement parts.
• Fill out work orders and follow up to ensure effectiveness of repairs.
• Coordinate machine assignments based on the production schedule and assign team members to appropriate duties.
• Assist with collecting team member production data and entering it into the computer system to generate reports.
• Complete reports, passdowns, and participate in shift transition meetings (arrive 15 minutes early and stay 15 minutes late to communicate with incoming/outgoing shifts).
• Serve as a safety leader by following all safety policies, reporting unsafe conditions, and coaching team members on safe work practices.
• Assist the shift manager during team member evaluations by observing performance.
• Assist with scheduling team member overtime, including requesting volunteers and communicating mandatory overtime.
• Communicate and execute schedule changes received from Production.
• Fill in as Line Inspector as needed.
• Update spec files when new prints supersede existing ones and create new files for new prints.
• Print labels by entering part numbers into the computer and producing new labels.
• Assist with training new team members and monitor their progress.
• Complete laser checks for rim diameter and rim thickness, as well as daily audits.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including special testing and paper testing.

Requirements

• Ability to move around the plant, stand for long periods, and safely lift up to 35 lbs.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (including Outlook) is preferred.
• Must monitor and respond to email while on shift and maintain/create data within the company database.
• Ability to work with close tolerances, precise measurements, and read schedules and scales.
• Previous operator experience and experience in production is extremely helpful.

Schedule

12-hour shifts, working alternately 36- and 48-hour weeks with four 15-minute breaks and one 25-minute lunch.
