Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement group fitness classes emphasizing fun, safety, and effective conditioning.
- Understand and follow all policies and procedures concerning the Group Exercise program and Department of Wellness and Recreation.
- Be present at least 10 minutes before class starting time and available at least 10 minutes after class end time.
- Ensure classes start and end on time.
- Clock in for classes and record attendance.
- Use the microphone headset at all times during the class and turn off the microphone and stereo after each use.
- Ensure general cleanliness and safety of the room before, during, and after class.
- Learn and adhere to the battery rotation system.
- Find appropriate substitutes before class and notify the Assistant Director at least 24 hours prior to class of the substitution.
- Treat all participants with respect, concern, and give personal attention when needed.
- Absorb and comply with any/all other DWR policies and perform any other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a current nationally recognized fitness certification (ACE, ACSM, NASM, AFAA, or equivalent).
- Ability to conduct safe and effective classes.
- Knowledgeable in techniques and dynamics of group exercise.
- Knowledge in a variety of group exercise class formats.
- Possession of current certification(s) for specific class formats, including adult CPR/AED.
- Knowledge of cardiovascular exercise and strength training principles.
- Good communication skills.
- Adhere to the Wellness and Recreation and University policies and procedures.
- Be reliable and dependable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience teaching or leading group exercise classes.
- Availability to work during winter and summer breaks.
Pay
The pay for this position is commensurate with experience.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is part-time and intermittent.
