Groundskeeper I - Veteran's Memorial Park

About the Role

This Groundskeeper I position performs semi-skilled manual labor in connection with the general maintenance and upkeep of park grounds, facilities, and buildings. The role involves routine duties under limited supervision, often interacting with the public. Emphasis is placed on public relations, including enforcement of rules and regulations, ordinances, and providing information. The position also involves overseeing the development of a volunteer base to assist with these responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Operates and assists with maintaining light-duty construction/maintenance equipment.
• Cleans, mows, edges, trims, and maintains grounds, recreation areas, and athletic fields.
• Plants, prunes, and trims bushes, shrubs, and trees.
• Places and removes sod and other landscape materials.
• Assists with watering, spraying, and fertilizing.
• Lays out, drags, conditions, stripes, and prepares athletic fields for use.
• Performs custodial duties such as emptying trash, cleaning restrooms, stripping and waxing floors.
• Assists with basic building maintenance, including painting, repairing doors, changing A/C air filters, and light bulbs.
• Assists with monitoring and maintaining operating supplies.
• Maintains written records and reports of daily and weekly activities.
• Communicates with supervision and administration both orally and in writing.
• Performs related work as required.

Requirements

• Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and push or pull heavy objects, sometimes using handling devices or working with a team member.
• Ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, and walk frequently.
• Ability to perform manual labor duties outdoors, sometimes under adverse conditions.
• Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication.
• Must work every weekend.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two (2) years of experience in general groundskeeping and/or park facility-related maintenance.
• Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
• Certification in First Aid and CPR must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
