Groundskeeper

Position Details

Position Purpose: Under the direction of a grounds supervisor or senior groundskeeper, maintain university hard surfaced and unplanted areas, establish and maintain planted areas.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalency
• A minimum of one (1) year of grounds maintenance experience
• A valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the University by the University’s insurance carrier
• Ability to read directions for the use of fertilizers and related materials and written instructions
• Perform physically active work requiring frequent standing, reaching, walking, bending, digging, shoveling, pulling, pushing, climbing on a ladder and lifting in order to perform various grounds tasks
• Frequent lifting requiring the execution of up to sixty pounds of force to move and use supplies, landscaping materials, and grounds equipment
• Works with fertilizers and other substances that may produce strong and/or offensive odors and works in various conditions with extremes in heat and cold
• Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification in Commercial Core and Category 3A (Turfgrass)
• Certification must be maintained as a condition of employment
