GROUNDSKEEPER
Responsibilities
- Maintenance of lawn and/or grass using mowers, edgers, and trimmers.
- Rakes and maintains leaves, plants, flowers, trees, or shrubs.
- Cleans up trash in parking lots/garages and exterior grounds.
- Empty and clean trash containers.
- Affords assistance in snow removal and cleanup.
- Assists in overall maintenance of grounds using equipment such as power washers, sweeper truck, lawn mowers, weed eaters, trimmers, edgers, etc.
- Fastens attachments such as grader, harrows, floats, and rollers to tractors with hitch pins.
- Releases brakes, shifts gears, and depresses accelerator or moves throttle to control forward and backward movement of tractor.
- Steers tractor by turning steering wheel and depressing brake pedals.
- Assists in maintaining the integrity of the racing surface.
- Delivers sand and clay to racetrack and barn areas.
- Must clean all equipment used.
- Must report problems with machinery or attachments to Motor Pool.
- Affords assistance in various areas of the department when needed.
- Affords assistance with transportation of disabled horses.
- Raking material around the racing surface.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age.
- A valid drivers’ license which will be subject to annual DMV background checks.
- One year maintenance experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Employee must be able to qualify for a West Virginia State Racing Commission License.
- A valid drivers’ license for the state in which you reside.
- OSHA certification on machinery used by Track Maintenance.

Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and peripheral vision. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electric shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud.
