About the Role
The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art, located in Sarasota, Florida, is a department of Florida State University. This position supports museum operations and provides general assistance for the Facilities department.
Responsibilities
- Performs campus groundskeeping tasks such as edging, raking, mulching, power blowing, light pruning, trimming spent blooms, and watering plants.
- Identifies and removes weeds from flowerbeds, gardens, planting areas, and pathways, ensuring the removal of roots to prevent regrowth. Includes hand weeding and the use of tools like hoes or weed pullers.
- Transplants plant and flower materials, assists with minor landscape renovations, including soil excavation and removal.
- Responsible for debris removal, leaf removal, trash pickup, and other tasks to keep grounds clean and presentable.
- Maintains areas by spreading landscape materials such as shell, bark, or rocks.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned to support museum operations.
Requirements
- Completion of 9th grade or higher.
- Must be 18 years of age or older due to the need to use golf carts on The Ringling grounds.
- Valid Florida Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to hire (driver’s permits are not acceptable).
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting 50 pounds, walking long distances, working from heights, and working in extreme weather conditions.
Schedule
Monday - Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM with a half-hour meal period. Weekends, evenings, and holidays may be required as needed.

- This is a University Support Personnel System (USPS) position.
- Requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.
- Position is based in Sarasota, FL.
- Employees are required to wear the standard issue uniform while at work.
- This role is designated as essential and may require work before, during, or after an emergency museum closure.
