Groundskeeper

About the Role

Performs a variety of ground care tasks aimed at enhancing the overall appearance of the resort exterior.

Responsibilities

• Empties all trash cans on grounds two times per day.
• Cleans charcoal and gas grills regularly.
• Mops and wipes down interior of elevators daily.
• Blows off beach boardwalk daily.
• Cleans indoor and outdoor pool bathrooms daily.
• Walks entire property, both exterior and under buildings, picking up trash and debris to maintain a clean environment for employees, owners, and guests.
• Adjusts beach water condition flags daily as needed.
• Vacuums hallways in buildings K and L.
• Pulls weeds from the ‘crop circles’.
• Replenishes mutt-mitts in receptacles throughout the property.
• Checks exterior lighting for burned-out bulbs.
• Cleans indoor pool windows.
• Keeps hallways, stairwells, and exterior light fixtures free of cobwebs and bugs.
• Conducts self in a professional manner at all times.
• Maintains proper dress code, keeps uniforms neat and clean, and wears them during working hours.
• Reports hazardous conditions and places wet floor signs during inclement weather or as needed.
• Accepts constructive criticism and follows posted work rules and procedures.
• Follows directions from supervisors and interacts well with co-workers, subordinates, and supervisors.
• Participates in all required health and OSHA safety meetings/classes.
• Performs any other duties assigned by the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Front Desk Supervisor, or VRI Director of Resorts.

Requirements

• Background and understanding of proper ground care methods, including knowledge of lawn, plant, and tree varieties.
• Experience with ground care equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and edgers, and an understanding of sprinkler systems.
• Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and recognize similarities and differences between words and series of numbers.
• Ability to understand and speak basic English sentences.
• Ability to apply common sense to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
• Ability to deal with standardized situations with occasional or no variables.
• Dependability and ability to work without constant supervision.
• Comfortable working around machinery and tolerant of heat.
• Ability to learn quickly and work in a fast-paced position.
• Ability to apply common sense to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
• Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Successful completion of a background check as a condition of employment.
