Grounds Worker / Custodian- Open to Kern High School District Regular And Substitute Employees Only -

Qualifications

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job
• Knowledge of grounds keeping and landscape methods and practices
• Safe use, maintenance, and operation of grounds keeping tools and hand power equipment
• Safe use and application of pesticides and herbicides for pest/weed control purposes
• Methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work
• Requirements for maintaining school buildings and grounds in a safe, clean, and orderly condition
• Skill to effectively and safely use hand and hand power tools associated with grounds keeping and landscape work
• Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions
• Ability to read and write at a level necessary to perform required duties successfully
• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
• Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency
• Ability to perform heavy physical labor
• One year of experience in custodial, grounds work, or general labor work
• Possession and maintenance of a California driver’s license
• Ability to submit a recent DMV driving record (3-year minimum) with application
• Willingness to undergo a criminal history check and pre-employment medical assessment prior to employment

Responsibilities

• Perform general grounds maintenance work such as removing and replacing fences, posts, and signs
• Dig post holes and trenches
• Maintain hoses, supplies, tools, and equipment in proper condition
• Assist with general custodial maintenance work as required
• Set up portable bleachers for athletic events and special assemblies
• Report unsafe hazards and conditions to appropriate authority
• May direct the work of student assistants or other temporary help
• Perform general grounds maintenance, landscape work, and general cleaning and custodial functions at an assigned school site
• Exercise responsibility for the general cleanliness of assigned locations
• Perform a variety of duties in the upkeep of assigned school site and related areas
• Be trained and responsible for the Kern High School District’s needs with regards to asbestos and hazardous materials

Employees in this class receive supervision from a Custodial Plant Supervisor or his/her designate within a framework of standard policies and procedures.

Pay

$3,639.58 per month (12 months)

Schedule

8 hours daily, 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (Grounds worker 4 hours / Custodian 4 hours)
