Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership and Supervision: Supervise and mentor grounds maintenance staff, providing guidance and support to enhance skills and efficiency.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for team members, identifying areas for improvement and professional development.
- Landscaping And Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of landscaped areas, ensuring adherence to quality and design specifications.
- Participate in hands-on maintenance tasks when necessary to demonstrate best practices.
- Irrigation Management: Design, install, and maintain irrigation systems, ensuring efficient water usage and optimal plant health. Regularly test and evaluate irrigation systems for functionality and efficiency.
- Pest Control And Disease Management: Identify pests and diseases affecting turf and ornamental plants, implementing integrated pest management strategies. Develop treatment plans for pest control and disease management in compliance with regulations.
- Material Ordering And Inventory Management: Order necessary landscape supplies, including plants, herbicides, fertilizers, and equipment. Manage inventory levels to ensure all required materials are available for maintenance tasks.
- Scheduling And Project Management: Create and manage work schedules for grounds maintenance staff to ensure timely completion of tasks. Prioritize and assign daily activities based on project needs and environmental conditions.
- Record Keeping And Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, pest control applications, and inventory management. Prepare reports on grounds maintenance operations for management review.
- Safety And Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with safety regulations and industry standards. Conduct safety training sessions and promote a culture of safety among team members.
- Licensing: Obtain an LLO pesticide license within the first 90 days of employment, ensuring compliance with state and local regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; degree in horticulture, landscape management, or related field preferred. Minimum of 5 years in grounds maintenance or landscaping, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Required Licenses, Certificates, And/or Security Clearances: Relevant certifications in pesticide application and irrigation management preferred. Candidates will be expected to obtain a Limited Lawn and Ornamental Pesticide License (LLO) by the State of Florida within the first 90 days of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid, US driver’s license. Must meet the University’s standards for approved drivers.
