About the role
This is a first shift supervisor position from 6:00am – 2:30pm Monday through Friday. This is a non-bargaining, Exempt, grade 25 position. Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and guidance to assigned staff engaged in grounds maintenance and operations.
- Schedule, assign, inspect and review work of assigned staff to ensure work is performed according to established standards.
- Review and approve timesheets; make corrections as needed.
- Conduct performance evaluations, formal and informal coaching and recommend disciplinary action.
- Conduct recruitment/interviewing and make recommendations to hire.
- Inspect equipment on a daily basis to ensure equipment and tools are functional and safe for use.
- Inspect campus grounds throughout the day to ensure cleanliness and a safe work and learning environment.
- Budget, Purchase and Order equipment, parts, chemicals, fertilizers, tools, flowers, shrubs, and rental equipment.
- Provide support for all campus activities such as meetings, celebrations, student activities, athletic events and commencement.
- Ensure all employees/contractors are informed and kept updated on events on campus.
- Monitor the grounds crew in emergency management techniques of evacuation during emergencies.
- Familiar with stormwater and snow removal management.
- Create, track, and complete work orders using work order database.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A High School Diploma or G.E.D., and/or any combination of education, training and experience providing understanding of the field, and the ability to perform the duties of the job.
- Training in Maryland/EPA guidelines for use of lawn care chemicals.
- Six years of experience supervising grounds/landscape personnel in an educational, large commercial, or similar environment.
- Experience operating large pieces of snow removal equipment and grounds equipment such as weed eaters and street sweeper equipment.
- Knowledge of or experience working in a union environment is preferred.

Pay
Hiring Range: $61,384 - $79,776 hourly. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $98,168.
