This is a first-shift, non-bargaining, exempt position (grade 25) on the Germantown campus. The schedule is 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday. This role is designated as "essential personnel," requiring attendance during campus suspensions or alternative work locations as directed.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and guidance to grounds maintenance staff.
- Schedule, assign, inspect, and review work to ensure compliance with established standards.
- Review and approve timesheets; conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and recommend disciplinary action.
- Conduct recruitment, interviewing, and hiring recommendations.
- Inspect equipment daily to ensure functionality and safety.
- Monitor campus grounds to maintain cleanliness and a safe environment.
- Manage budget, purchasing, and ordering of equipment, parts, chemicals, fertilizers, tools, plants, and rental equipment.
- Support campus activities, including meetings, celebrations, student events, athletic events, and commencement.
- Communicate event updates to employees and contractors.
- Monitor grounds crew during emergencies and ensure familiarity with stormwater and snow removal management.
- Ensure timely completion of work tickets and proper training for personnel on equipment use.
- Provide guidance on tool utilization and work order management using a work order database.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or G.E.D., or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Training in Maryland/EPA guidelines for lawn care chemical use.
- Six years of supervisory experience in grounds/landscape maintenance in an educational, large commercial, or similar environment.
- Experience operating snow removal equipment and grounds equipment (e.g., weed eaters, street sweepers).
- Knowledge of or experience in a union environment is preferred.
- For degrees earned outside the U.S., an education equivalency evaluation by a nationally recognized service is required.

Pay
Hiring range: $61,384 – $79,776 hourly. Initial salary placement is based on relevant experience and internal equity, with a maximum salary of $98,168.
