Grounds Maintenance Coordinator

Lead position performing and supervising skilled and semi-skilled work in parks, athletic fields, facilities, and buildings. Schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM with rotating on-call duty for after-hours emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, plan, and coordinate work of assigned staff; review and evaluate employee performance; counsel staff and initiate commendations or disciplinary action.
  • Lead and assist in grounds maintenance activities for park operations and maintenance staff.
  • Provide guidance, advice, and problem-solving assistance to manage daily challenges.
  • Train and instruct staff on operations, maintenance, safety practices, and procedures.
  • Inspect work completed by staff and contracted services to ensure high standards.
  • Perform weekly irrigation and active sports field inspections.
  • Coordinate materials, supplies, equipment, and personnel to complete operational and maintenance assignments.
  • Make general operating decisions and determine equipment and staff use in supervisor’s absence.
  • Maintain schedules, inventory, and work assignments using an electronic work order system.
  • Assist with public relations activities; prepare and maintain records and reports.
  • Drive and operate county vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Operate and maintain medium equipment such as front loaders, small bulldozers, backhoes, rollers, gang mowers, bush hogs, boom axes, slope mowers, and box tractors.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Five years’ experience with computers.
  • At least four years’ experience in the turf industry and grounds maintenance.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Florida Driver License (or obtain within 30 days of establishing residency).
  • Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class “A” (obtain within six months of employment).
  • Playground Safety Inspector certification (obtain within six months of employment).
  • Florida Applicator License (Ornamental and Turf) (obtain within six months of employment).
  • FEMA NIMS certifications (obtain within 90 days):
    • IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS)
    • IS-200.b: ICS for Single Resources & Initial Action Incidents
    • IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
    • IS-800.c: National Response Framework, an Introduction

Skills and Abilities

  • Complete turf grass or grounds maintenance courses post-hire.
  • Sufficient physical strength, agility, and stamina to work under adverse conditions.
  • Knowledge of operating light to medium equipment.
  • Ability to use standard maintenance equipment, construction equipment, and hand tools.
  • Ability to work after hours, including nights, weekends, and on-call duties.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintain courteous and effective relations with staff, officials, community groups, and the public.
  • Strong computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Physical Requirements

  • Combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, balancing, twisting, and reaching above shoulders; occasional climbing and throwing.
  • Tasks involve simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manual manipulation, typing, operating foot controls/levers, driving automotive equipment, working in darkness, and operating a manual transmission.
  • Requires normal visual acuity, depth perception, color vision, hearing, and speaking.
  • Exposure to adverse weather, moving machinery, fumes, gases, electrical hazards, unprotected heights, and extreme noise.

Schedule
