About the role

The Grounds Maintenance Coordinator position at Citrus County Government involves leading and supervising grounds maintenance activities in parks, athletic fields, facilities, and buildings. This full-time role operates Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with participation in a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, plans, and coordinates work of assigned staff.
  • Reviews and evaluates employee performance and completes performance evaluations.
  • Counsels staff and initiates commendations or disciplinary action when appropriate.
  • Leads, assists, and helps to supervise grounds maintenance activities.
  • Provides guidance, advice, and problem-solving assistance to effectively manage daily challenges and concerns.
  • Assists with training and instructing staff regarding all aspects of operations and maintenance, including safety practices and operational procedures.
  • Maintains schedules, inventory, and work assignments using an electronic work order system.
  • Performs weekly irrigation inspections and active sports field inspections.
  • Affords assistance in coordinating materials, supplies, equipment, and personnel to ensure completion of operational and maintenance assignments.
  • Makes general operating decisions and determines how to use equipment and staff in the absence of his/her supervisor.
  • Operates, maintains, and services various medium equipment’s to maintain roadways, right of ways, drainage, and other areas as needed.
  • Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment to complete tasks efficiently, adhering to safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Five (5) years’ working experience with computers.
  • At least four (4) years’ experience in turf industry and grounds maintenance.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within six (6) months of employment, Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class “A”.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within six (6) months of employment, Playground Safety Inspector certification.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within six (6) months of employment, Florida Applicator License (Ornamental and Turf).
