About the role

Under the supervision of the area General Foreperson, this position will be responsible for switching, maintenance, and construction of substation equipment including implementation of all necessary protective measures for preventative and reactive maintenance duties and performing routine substation inspections. The role ensures an efficient and safe work environment for employees and contractors in strict accordance with all customer and company practices and procedures, and provides leadership for all Operator/EMJ apprentices.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all work from the ground.
  • Clears work area around structures.
  • Excavates to assist in the installation of structures or cable as required by contract specification.
  • Communicates with public and private property owners regarding work to be performed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Foreperson relating to utility line work.
  • Assembles material on the ground to be installed by the lineperson or apprentice.
  • Flags traffic.
  • Operates various tools for the work (e.g., manual digging devices, wrenches, hammers, come-along, jack hammer, hand line).
  • Working hours may extend into night shifts and exceed an eight-hour day.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Rare (up to 10%): stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing poles, reading, reaching, color vision, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, climbing stairs, balancing, lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Occasional (up to 33%): sitting, kneeling, body twisting, sense of touch, seeing distant, climbing on/off truck, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., range of motion, depth perception, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent (up to 66%): standing, walking, manual dexterity, gripping, lifting, carrying.
  • Continuous (up to 100%): speaking clearly, seeing, hearing-speech range.
