Groundman - Underground (DUKE)

About the role

The Underground Groundman is an entry-level position responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This position involves working at various locations and may require occasional travel to another state based on customer demands.

Responsibilities

• Set up pad mount transformers.
• Maintain safety protocols around energized high voltage systems.
• Inspect and maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
• Perform rigorous physical labor as needed.
• Operate a commercial driver's license (CDL).
• Communicate effectively and follow directions.
• Identify and understand primary and secondary voltages on circuits.
• Assist with the installation and removal of single-phase transformers.
• Participate in bucket rescue operations and confined space work.
• Understand and apply grounding and equipment setup principles.
• Work at heights and in confined spaces as necessary.
• Check and install/remove service connections.
• Inspect and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Climb different types of structures using appropriate tools.
• Work in underground trenches and manholes.
• Use Kellum grips and other safety equipment.
• Identify and work with various materials used in line work.
• Work in various weather conditions, including inclement weather.
• Work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Requirements

• No prior experience necessary.
• Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Able to obtain a CDL within 60 days of employment.
• Able to work in various locations and for extended periods.
• Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
• Able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
• Willing to work over-time and outside of the normal work schedule.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, and feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. Noise levels can be loud, and the work environment can be outdoors in various weather conditions.
