About the role

As a Hardware Development Engineer on the Ground Systems team, you will contribute to the design, development, integration, and validation of Telemetry, Tracking & Command (TT&C) and Ground Gateway hardware. You will operate as an autonomous technical contributor who independently designs hardware components and significant technical portions of subsystems for tightly coupled and often ambiguous aerospace systems. These systems support satellite launch, early orbit operations, and ongoing command and control of the Leo constellation using full-motion tracking antenna terminals and their associated RF electronics.

You will be expected to perform under a combination of constraints, including satellite-system deployment consequences, limited post-deployment access, tight regulatory and export-control constraints, and immature supplier reference ecosystems that often require first-principles development. You will make design decisions with awareness that reliability and quality must be established before deployment because repair, RMA, or post-deployment correction may be impractical.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, development, and validation of RF hardware and electronics subsystems for TT&C and Gateway terminals, including antenna feed assemblies, RF front-end chains, and ancillary equipment.
  • Perform CAD functions for new designs and improvements to deployed infrastructure, and drive these through installation and implementation.
  • Execute bring-up, hardware integration, and test campaigns for Gateway and TT&C subsystems.
  • Develop and execute verification and validation plans to ensure hardware meets performance, environmental, and reliability requirements.
  • Support root cause analysis and failure investigations on ground station hardware.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to drive hardware development, procurement, and integration activities.
  • Contribute to design review documentation, test reports, and engineering change processes.
  • Support the transition of HW designs from development through qualification and into production and field deployment.
  • Work closely with RF systems, mechanical, thermal, software, and operations teams to ensure TT&C and Gateway ground stations meet performance requirements and are deployable at global scale.

About the Team

The Ground Systems team is developing globally distributed high data rate satellite communication terminals, which operate off of automated software driven systems and which maintain critical connectivity from the ground to the complete Leo constellation. This team is driving the development, deployment and long-term operability of Leo ground station terminals.

Requirements

  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or an equivalent engineering science.
  • 5+ years of working directly with engineering teams.
  • 5+ years of hardware development and CAD experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of satellite communications ground systems and operations experience.
