Ground Support Technician

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is seeking a Ground Support Technician to join our Manufacturing department in Mobile, AL. This role involves the safe off-loading of Major Components Assemblies (MCA) from sea and road transport jigs onto Final Assembly Line (FAL) transportation trolleys and delivering MCAs to the Final Assembly Line stations according to the planning schedule.

The team at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facilities assembles the A220 and A320 Family aircraft. You’ll work alongside individuals passionate about aviation, with expertise in electrical, structural, and quality areas. The facility, located at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley, strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry and supports Airbus’ global competitiveness.

Responsibilities

• Crane Operations (60%): Operate overhead cranes in the Transshipment hangar, A320 Final Assembly Line, Final Phase hangars, and A220 FAL to receive and deliver major aircraft components using various crane configurations and lifting devices.
• Aircraft Towing (20%): Operate heavy aircraft tow tugs to move aircraft into and out of hangars for pre-Final Operational Testing. Ensure aircraft system readiness and proper configuration for towing, cargo loading, mooring, electrical power connections, ventilation, and cabin access in accordance with the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM). Includes MAA AOA training.
• Logistics / Site Services (15%): Coordinate logistical support for cannibalization, reallocation, out-of-sequence requests of aircraft materials, and the return of sea transport jigs. Operate heavy equipment (e.g., 30k forklift, articulating man lifts, scissor lifts) to load/unload shipping containers and MCAs at heights of 20-30 feet. Perform fueling activities for ground support equipment (GSE) using portable fuel tanks.
• Documentation / Training (5%): Adhere to policies for accurate recording of completed work and work-in-progress using daily job cards. Notify affected parties of clerical errors or incomplete documentation. Use SOIs to perform tasks and document discrepancies. Maintain up-to-date training records for EHS and SAP. Complete required daily pre-operational inspections of GSE.
• Additional Responsibilities: Housekeeping, assisting with lifting/pushing/pulling, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 3 years of experience working with overhead cranes.
• 3+ years of experience in aviation ramp operations.
• 3+ years of experience working with heavy equipment.
• SAP experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Speaking: Engage in conversations in person and via electronic means; deliver information to groups with or without amplification.

• Carrying: Occasionally carry up to 70 lbs/31.7 kg for training, production issues, or continuous improvement projects.
• Lifting: Occasionally lift up to 30 lbs/14 kg.
• Pushing/Pulling: Push/pull items in office areas and on the shop floor.
• Sitting: Sit for extended periods at a computer or in meetings.
• Squatting/Kneeling: Occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items.
• Standing: Stand for extended periods while delivering information.
• Travel/Mobility: Travel overseas and domestically, sometimes on short notice. Work outside hangars in changing locations, on movable lifts at heights up to 40 ft, in ventilated fuel tanks with a mask, or in confined spaces. Enter a wing through a 9.8-inch by 17.7-inch oval opening.
• Walking: Walk through office and production areas, around flight lines and airstrips, and on uneven indoor/outdoor surfaces.
• Climbing: Climb stairs or ladders as required.
• Visual: Visually inspect parts/components, including reading small numbers on Vernier scales or similar.
