Ground Labor

Job Duties

• Unloading pallets, boxes, and bundles
• Material handling / sorting – pushing, pulling, picking, lifting, carrying, and filling up hoppers, boxes, and conveyor belts
• Unpacking boxes using box cutters, separating plastics, zip ties, blister packs, and other packaging materials
• Disassembling small equipment, cutting wires, torqueing pipefittings, removing bolts, automobile parts, and appliance parts
• Work with recycling equipment for processing metal products, such as metal shears, band saws, and wire strippers
• Direct traffic of yard vehicles traveling through the yard
• Perform light facility maintenance tasks, including painting, scraping, moving furniture and equipment
• Maintain machinery by selecting and using tools properly, pulling and installing parts for machinery, and assisting with machinery repairs
• Perform housekeeping duties, such as sweeping, cleaning, shoveling, and debris collection
• Engage in moderate and periodic landscaping work
• Clean up work area at the end of each shift
• Keep work areas neat and orderly
• Ensure regular attendance and punctuality
• Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner
• Inspect to ensure cleanup is completed
• Contribute to effective housekeeping in the workplace area for safety and better hygiene conditions

Qualifications

• Prior to April 2014, employees are presumed to be qualified and grandfathered into their positions.
• Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
• Must pass a background check.
• Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, and bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills.
• Must possess the ability to communicate effectively, understand directions, and use basic math skills as needed for the job.
• Willingness to learn new skills, such as sorting metal, identifying colors, shapes, and weights, and properly maintaining equipment.
