Grooming Salon Leader
About the Role
This position is responsible for leading the operations of the grooming salon, achieving targeted goals, and driving results to grow the business. This includes overseeing daily salon operations, training and coaching staff, and providing exceptional customer service to all pet parents and their pets.
Responsibilities
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Work scheduled shifts, including varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as dictated by business needs.

- Manage day-to-day operations of the Groom Shop, including scheduling, safety checklists, and salon audits.
- Ensure all grooming SOPs and salon standards are audit-compliant and cleanliness standards are adhered to.
- Place monthly supply orders with Store Manager approval, staying within the monthly salon budget.
- Assist in hiring and onboarding new Groomers and Groom Technicians, including training, mentoring, and evaluating skills.
- Communicate daily/weekly updates to the salon team and Store Manager, including sales performance.
- Schedule weekly meetings with the Store Manager to discuss staffing, schedules, and business forecasts.
- Drive salon growth through customer outreach, appointment scheduling, follow-ups, community events, and in-store events.
- Lead salon team members by coaching for professional development, performance metrics, and customer satisfaction.
- Provide professional grooming services for dogs using knowledge of grooming styles and techniques.
- Review and ensure compliance with Safe Pet Handling SOPs annually; retain signed records.
- Demonstrate and coach professionalism among the salon team.
- Handle and maintain grooming equipment safely.
- Inspect animals for external signs of parasites, disease, or injury and report findings to pet owners.
- Practice safety and sanitization protocols; maintain grooming tools and equipment to prevent injury and disease spread.
- Maintain records of all pet clients, including services provided and vaccination records.
- Operate a computer as needed and assist with store recovery if required.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of live animals; sanitize and maintain holding tanks.
- Complete all documentation associated with job duties.
- Follow all salon policies and procedures; perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience grooming pets under the leadership of a professional groomer.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Comfortable working with dogs and cats.
- Demonstrate patience and compassion for animals.
- Must provide own grooming tools (clippers, blades, shears) or be willing to purchase them.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to read, write, and count accurately.
Preferred Skills
- Operate and use all grooming tools and equipment, including bathing tubs, brushes, combs, scissors, clippers, dryers, and bathing products.
- Communicate effectively with team members and customers.
- Display compassion and attention to detail when handling animals.
- Problem-solving skills and basic computer proficiency.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve issues ethically with minimal conflict.
Working Conditions
- Favorable working environment, generally indoors with moderate noise.
- Hard surfaces (concrete, asphalt) indoors and outdoors; adequate lighting and temperature.
- Exposure to wet conditions (e.g., bathing dogs), sharp grooming instruments, perfumed shampoos, soaps, pets, and pet waste.
- Exposure to cats and dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments.
- Work shifts vary; generally no less than 4 hours and may exceed 10 hours.

Physical Requirements
- Non-sedentary position; ability to move and transfer live animals, equipment, and merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to utilize grooming instruments, including shears and dryers.
- Occasionally lift or reach merchandise overhead.
- Constantly operate store equipment such as computers and cash registers.
- Lift and carry pets generally weighing up to 75 pounds; ability to lift and carry pets over 100 pounds with assistance.
- Push and pull merchandise up to 2,000 pounds with proper material handling equipment (e.g., pallet jack, dolly).
- Frequently move around the salon to groom, bathe, clean, and maintain the salon for a full shift.
- Ability to walk, stand, and maintain a stationary position while grooming animals for a full shift.
- Frequently twist, bend, kneel, crouch, stoop, and squat to groom, bathe, clean, and stock merchandise.
- Handle and be in contact with live animals.
- Physical and mental stamina to move quickly and safely throughout the salon and outdoor areas.
