Grocery Specialist, Supply Chain Optimization (SCO)
Join Alaska Commercial Company (ACC) as a Grocery Specialist in Supply Chain Optimization (SCO) and play a key role in improving inventory accuracy, operational compliance, and supply chain execution across our store network. ACC, a subsidiary of The North West Company International (NWCI), serves under-served rural communities and urban neighborhood markets in Northern Canada, Western Canada, rural Alaska, the South Pacific islands, and the Caribbean.
Responsibilities
- Lead cycle count, gap scan, shrink scanning, and inventory accuracy compliance initiatives across stores.
- Monitor negative on-hand inventory, inventory variances, and inventory anomalies.
- Conduct inventory reviews and support stores in improving inventory performance and reducing shrink.
- Ensure compliance with receiving procedures, replenishment standards, markdown programs, reclaim processes, planograms, MPVs, and newsflash execution.
- Develop and maintain operational reporting, including inventory dashboards, forecasting reports, and compliance scorecards.
- Analyze inventory and operational trends to identify risks, gaps, and opportunities.
- Partner with Supply Chain Optimization, Operations, Logistics, Merchandising, and Finance teams.
- Train and coach store teams on inventory management and operational processes.
- Conduct store visits to validate execution and identify opportunities for improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university, or one to two years’ related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong customer service skills and a customer-driven mindset.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with inventory management, replenishment systems, and operational processes.
- Strong knowledge of grocery retail operations and inventory control principles.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong computer skills.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and communicate effectively.
- Ability to work with confidential information.
- Highly self-motivated with a passion for serving communities.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Ability to travel to stores 120 days out of the year (every other week).
- Ability to work some weekends and holidays.
- Ability to lift 50-70 lbs consistently.
Working Conditions
- Travel Requirements: Up to 120 days of travel per year to rural Alaska, often via small aircraft. Must be comfortable with travel to remote communities where conditions vary and weather may impact schedules.
- Remote Locations: Hotel lodging is not always available; be prepared for alternative sleeping arrangements, such as shared or temporary spaces.
- Environmental Conditions: Work may take place in congested, dusty, or active store environments. Some communities have limited infrastructure or amenities.
- Climate: Travel year-round, including during Alaska’s extreme winter weather. Be ready for sub-zero temperatures, snow, and possible travel delays or extended stays.
- Office Environment: Based at the Anchorage head office in a fast-paced, open office setting. Work is primarily computer-based, with extended periods of sitting or standing at a desk.
