Responsibilities
- Maintains a positive attitude; creates an atmosphere of friendliness and fun through flexibility and teamwork.
- Generates a friendly atmosphere by encouraging employees to greet and speak to customers; providing prompt, courteous, and efficient service to customers and sets a good example.
- Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
- Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store.
- Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible.
- Assists customers by: (examples include: escorting them to the products they're looking for, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests, performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience).
- Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
- Perpetuates the fundamental values of the Hy-Vee culture.
- Ensures food safety guidelines are followed and complies with the person-in-charge sanitation training as determined by the governmental regulatory agencies.
- Takes corrective actions as necessary.
- Provides food safety training for all employees within the store and ensures all employees complete the Hy-Vee On-Line Food Safety Training.
- Coordinates all product recall events.
- Forecasts and reviews (may write) the store labor schedule within the store director's guidelines.
- Recruits, interviews, selects, orientates, and trains new employees.
- Handles employee issues, and coordinates disciplinary procedures when necessary.
- Provides leadership in actively pursuing sales goals with increased sales and profitability.
- Uses and understands all hardware and software technology in the store.
- Works with department heads and other designated personnel regarding schedules, labor issues, product purchasing, and merchandising to meet their specific goals.
- Maintains a positive attitude; oversees building/ground maintenance and all store sanitation to ensure they meet with the store director's guidelines.
- Attends company meetings as requested (may require an overnight stay) and disseminates the information to store level employees.
- Oversees cash accountability, accounting procedures, audits to ensure compliance, and investigates potential problems.
- Adheres to all company policies and individual store guidelines.
- Reports to work when scheduled and works expected number of hours.
Secondary Duties And Responsibilities
- Completes required in-store department training, on-line training, testing, as well as the Dale Carnegie Basic class (as required by the store manager).
- Ensures safety procedures to provide a safe and healthy work environment for employees and customers.
- Pursues retail educational opportunities and continuing education whenever possible.
- Assists in all areas of the stores as needed.
- Provides continuous education for existing store employees regarding new and updated company and store policies, procedures, and job duties.
- Responsible for checking of competitors pricing as requested by store director.
- Explains store services to potential personal and business account customers to generate additional business for the store.
- Affords assistance in replenishing product and designs and constructs displays.
- Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Worker Characteristics
- Must have the ability to use logical or scientific thinking to solve problems and several abstract and concrete variables.
- Must have the ability to do arithmetic, Algebraic and Geometric calculations.
- Must be able to report, write, or edit articles for publication; prepare and deliver presentations; interview, counsel or advise people; evaluate technical data.
Education And Experience
- High School or equivalent experience.
- One or more years of retail management experience.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to physically perform light work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
- Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distance of less than 20 inches and more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, and field of vision.
- The following physical activities are necessary to perform this job: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
- This is a fast paced work environment.
- Equipment Used To Perform Job Pallet jack, box cutter, cash registers, knives, department power equipment, trash compactor, cardboard baler, fork lift, computer, calculator, telephone, FAX machine, two wheeler, register computer, delivery vehicle, ordering machine.
Financial Responsibility
- Authorized to purchase merchandise and supplies and order repairs on equipment.
Contacts
- Has daily contact with customers, employees, suppliers/vendors, and the general public.
- Has occasional contact with federal or state regulatory agencies regarding inspections.
- Has access to confidential information including salaries/wages of employees, employee files, and sales and profit information.
