About the role
This position provides direct leadership to grocery department crew members, managing their training, performance, and day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
- Planner and assign work, conduct performance evaluations, coach sessions, and administer discipline when needed.
- Provide training and development opportunities, reward crew members, address complaints, and resolve problems.
- Mentor grocery department crew members to provide outstanding guest service.
- Manage training process for new grocery crew members, including onboarding activities and department-specific training.
- Place orders for grocery merchandise, receive, check in, and control inventory.
- Assume responsibility for store operations in absence of Store Director and Assistant Store Director.
- Prepare grocery products for sale, stock and face products, and maintain displays.
- Write daily plans and weekly work schedules, and control and maintain inventory.
- Ensure execution of grocery programs and corporate promotions.
- Handle all forms of tender, including cash, checks, WIC, food stamps, gift cards, EBT transactions, and coupons.
- Manage loss prevention efforts and maintain accurate records for damaged/spoiled merchandise.
- Work towards acquiring product knowledge and stay updated on specials and promotions.
- Work in a team-oriented environment that inspires collaboration and cooperation.
- Work seven days a week, including weekends and holidays.
Qualifications
- 2 years of department management experience or equivalent education/experience.
- Business Management degree preferred.
- Knowledge of fundamental management concepts, practices, and procedures related to food service, merchandising, and retail operations.
- Expert knowledge of all products carried in the department, including willingness to taste and evaluate Center Store products.
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures for proper handling of knives, hand tools, and other department/store machinery/equipment.
- Strong work ethic with ability to follow instructions and procedures applying effective time management skills.
- Comprehend, interpret, and analyze instructions, correspondence, government regulations, financial reports, legal documents, packing lists, manifests, pick sheets/fulfillment orders, inventory count sheets, movement/volume reports.
- Math skills necessary, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, gross margins, markup and percentages, analyze variance, complete reports, budget labor and sales, complete sales transactions, calculate discounts.
- Excellent communication skills, including ability to professionally and courteously interact with guests, crew members, store management team, corporate sales managers, and leadership.
