Grocery Department Manager

About the role

Oversee daily grocery operations, including profitability, expense control, merchandising, labor, regulatory compliance, and special projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and motivate team members, ensuring exceptional customer service and fostering a positive work environment.
• Make hiring, training, development, and separation decisions.
• Monitor sales, purchasing, and labor targets; maintain product assortment and inventory control.
• Build collaborative relationships with leaders and vendors.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and food safety regulations.
• Perform performance evaluations and communicate company vision and goals.

Requirements

• 24+ months of retail experience with at least 12 months in team leadership.
• Knowledge of products, merchandising, inventory, and regulatory policies.
• Strong interpersonal, decision-making, and leadership skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and operations tools.
• Food safety certification within 6 months if not already certified.

Physical & Working Conditions

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Stand and walk for extended hours.
• Work in cold and/or wet environments.
• Handle tools and machinery.
• Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
